When a student fills a classmates' invisible bucket, both the bucket filler and the person whose bucket was filled get to add a "puff" to their buckets. Remember, when a student fills a classmate's bucket, he or she is also filling his or her own invisible bucket because it feels good to make others feel good. This activity is based around the honor system, so students do not need to report to Ms. Applegate every time they fill a bucket. The students simply visit the bucket-filling display and add their puffs at an appropriate time during the school day. When we have some extra time in the day, students share their bucket-filling stories with the class as a way of building community in our classroom. You can help us in this program by modeling kindness, brainstorming with your student how they can fill others’ buckets and by asking your student if they’ve filled a bucket today.
